KazNARU STUDENTS INTRODUCED TO RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM PREVENTION MEASURES

On February 26, 2026, Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, in cooperation with the Almaty City Department for Religious Affairs, held a special lecture for students titled “Prevention of the Spread of Destructive Religious Ideologies.”
Today, religious extremism and terrorism remain among the most serious global challenges. Preventing religiously motivated offenses and countering destructive movements disguised under religion is a shared responsibility of society. Combating religious extremism requires comprehensive and long-term efforts.
The event was attended by a member of the Almaty city information and outreach group, lecturer of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, philosopher Aizhan Kuderina, Student Ombudsperson of the Youth Affairs Office Kuzen Nazerke Bekseitkyzy, deputy deans for student affairs, Youth Affairs Office specialists, academic advisors, and students.
The meeting was moderated by Maksat Imanbekov, Leading Specialist for Social and Legal Affairs at the Youth Affairs Office of KazNARU. He spoke about developing students’ awareness in recognizing destructive influences, preventive measures, and ways to avoid being drawn into extremist ideologies.
In her speech, Aizhan Kuderina emphasized that preventing the spread of destructive religious ideologies is a key factor in ensuring social stability and security. She noted that the influence of radical ideologies is often linked to socio-economic challenges, uncontrolled information flows, and insufficient religious literacy among young people. Therefore, preventive measures must be comprehensive, including systematic awareness campaigns, promotion of national values, and development of critical thinking skills.
Students were presented with thematic presentations and video materials. They were also informed about the legal responsibility for distributing extremist content through social media. Participants received detailed answers to their questions.
Concluding the event, Head of the Youth Affairs Office Ashirali Smanov highlighted that ensuring students’ safety and spiritual resilience is one of the university’s top priorities. He confirmed that systematic efforts aimed at strengthening religious literacy, critical thinking, and resistance to destructive ideologies will continue.
