SAFETY IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

112 is the telephone number of the unified emergency dispatch service of the Department of Emergency Situations.

You only need to call this number if you need emergency help, when there is a real threat to life, health, property, the environment, or there is a real reason for the occurrence of these threats.

In Kazakhstan, in addition to 112, there are numbers for all emergency services:

  • Fire extinguishing service 101;
  • Police 102;
  • Ambulance 103;
  • Emergency gas service 104.
  • Anti-terrorist hotline 110.

SAFETY MEASURES DURING AN EARTHQUAKE

DURING AN EARTHQUAKE:

  • Do not use the elevator or stairs during the earthquake
  • Do not panic and help prevent panic in others
  • Stay away from windows and glass partitions
  • Do not jump out of windows or off balconies if you live above the first floor
  • Leave the building after the shaking stops, covering your head and watching out for exposed electrical wires and other damage
  • Be prepared for aftershocks

IF YOU ARE TRAPPED UNDER DEBRIS:

  • Do not panic; remember that rescue teams are working
  • Try to orient yourself in the space
  • If trapped for a long time, do not light a fire to avoid explosions or ignition from possible gas leaks
  • Try to find water
  • Signal for help (e.g., bang metal against metal—radiators, pipes, etc.)

Fire is a silent enemy.

It is impossible to predict where and when a fire will break out. This happens at any time when safety and security regulations are not followed. It is impossible to predict and say for sure.

  • If the fire source is small, try to extinguish it yourself using any available means: fire extinguishers, any thick fabric, sand, soil from flower pots, water, etc.
  • If electrical wiring insulation is burning, turn off the power supply at the main switchboard.
  • Immediately inform neighbors or colleagues in other rooms and initiate evacuation.
  • Turn off electrical equipment.
  • Close windows and doors to prevent drafts from spreading the fire.
  • Leave the fire area; do not search for or collect belongings.
  • Move to a safe location.

WHAT TO TELL THE DISPATCHER WHEN CALLING 101 OR 112:

  • The address of the fire or ignition
  • The object on fire (in the yard, in the apartment, in the warehouse, etc.)
  • The item on fire (TV, furniture, etc.)
  • If necessary – entrance number, apartment number, number of floors in the building, the floor where the fire is, the most convenient access point, entry codes, etc.
  • Your last name and phone number
  • SPEAK CLEARLY AND CALMLY!

  • Cool the burned area under cold running water for at least 10 minutes.
  • Cover the wound with a dry sterile gauze bandage and call a doctor.
  • Do not try to remove material stuck to the skin, do not pop any blisters, and do not cut off "excess" skin — this can lead to infection. Simply cover the burned area with a clean, dry cloth and apply a sterile bandage.
  • Never use butter, vegetable oil, egg white, or urine — these will only worsen the injury and make treatment more difficult.
  • Call emergency services if needed. Always call an ambulance if a child is burned, if blisters have formed, if multiple areas of the body are affected, or if internal tissues are visible to the naked eye.
