Relevance
The water resources of river basins are subject to climate change, leading to higher temperatures and lower annual precipitation. This leads to a 15-20% reduction in water availability for agricultural land and river flow, which determines the scientific and practical feasibility of a geo-ecological assessment of the irrigation and resource potential of rivers, including water and irrigation (surface and groundwater resources), land irrigation (soil and land resources), technical irrigation (hydro-agricultural landscape), and economic irrigation (labor resources and production volume) potentials. Increased water consumption and water shortages require the development of measures to ensure the ecological, food, and water security of the region.
The idea of the project is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the state of water catchment areas, create an information and analytical database, and monitor irrigation systems, taking into account the interests of the local population and the need to preserve nature.
Purpose
Development of principles and methodological approaches for assessing the irrigation resource potential of river basin catchment areas, recognizing the equal importance of water resources in three aspects: ecology (ensuring the quality of the human environment), economics (increasing the purchasing power of society), and society (improving the well-being of the population) in the context of climate change and anthropogenic activity.
Expected and achieved results
The main result of the research aimed at achieving the project's goals and objectives is a model that has been tested and adapted for assessing the irrigation resource potential of the territory in the Karatal River basin. This research will provide a basis for the rational use of water resources and the development of an algorithm for assessing the irrigation resource potential of the river basin. In addition, a system of geo-ecological restrictions will be created to ensure the sustainable use of irrigation resource potential with the aim of preserving the environment.
The expected results will be presented in the form of scientific reports, scientific and methodological developments, an information and analytical database, data from climatic, hydrological, and water management studies, scientifically based requirements, and scientific articles.
1) The results of the research conducted within the framework of the Project will be published in journals, i.e., two articles in journals from the first three quartiles by impact factor in the Web of Science database or with a CiteScore percentile of at least 50 in the Scopus database, as well as one article in a journal recommended by the Committee.

Information for potential users
The results of the study can serve as a basis for creating a new concept and strategy for the balanced use of water resources, ensuring their ecological, social, and economic sustainability. They can also be used for the rational management of water resources in river basins. The scientific results of the study will be shared with water management organizations, administrative structures, as well as public organizations and experts in the field of water management and environmental protection. This will facilitate dialogue between stakeholders and integrate the knowledge gained into water resource management practices.
