About the project
Relevance
Sea buckthorn is one of the most valuable garden crops. Mention of it as a healing culture is found in ancient medical treatises dating back to the period of the Tang Empire (618-907). Modern biochemical studies have established the unique composition of its fruits. They contain a whole complex of vitamins, polyphenols, antioxidants and minerals. Sea buckthorn oil is a standard pharmacological preparation used in the treatment of burns, wounds and inflammations. The content of the antioxidant revistrol classifies fruits and products from sea buckthorn as anticoncergenic crops. It should also be noted that in addition to the fruits, leaves, also distinguished by their valuable biochemical composition, are widely used in pharmacology and cosmetology. Until the mid-20th century, the main source of fruit procurement was wild plantings, and then after the introduction of this species into cultivation and the development of a whole group of varieties at the Siberian Horticulture Research Institute. M.A. Lisavenko began to establish industrial plantations, first in Russia, and then in the countries of Europe, Asia, and especially the country of sea buckthorn leader China. Here sea buckthorn is a national crop and serves not only for harvesting fruits, but is also used as an ecological crop with the ability to restore soil. Plantation cultivation of sea buckthorn was hampered due to the thorniness of the species and, as a result, problems with harvesting. Wild growing areas of the crop are often inaccessible for the logistics of the harvesting process, and labor productivity in this operation is very low. Even in China, with its cheap labor, only about 100 thousand tons of fruits are harvested from 1 million hectares. They are large-fruited, practically thornless and have little tearing force from the stalk. and in the best varieties the stalks come from the branches. Their tearing force is not significant. Accordingly, labor productivity during harvesting increases many times over. This served as the starting point for the industrial cultivation of sea buckthorn over large areas.
The proposed development allows for the first time in Kazakhstan to supply to the market high-value and competitive raw materials with significant export prospects and practically unlimited demand in the Kazakhstan market.
Objective of the project
Organization of sea buckthorn production based on waste-free original technology ensuring high yields and profits.
Expected and achieved results
1. A platform will be created to provide objective information on highly effective technology for growing sea buckthorn to potential investors and farmers in the form of illustrative products, training seminars, and demonstration of results already achieved.
2. Agreements will be concluded for the implementation of technologies after a comprehensive assessment of the soil and climatic conditions of the farm and their material and technical base. After this, an adapted protocol for the introduction of technology will be prepared, taking into account farm conditions.
3. The technology of sea buckthorn meadow garden will be introduced, including the practical implementation and monitoring of a developed individual protocol, including all stages of cultivation: selection of varieties and seedlings, planting scheme and density, water-nutrient regime, pest and disease control, harvesting and adapted to farming conditions.
1. On the site of ECOS Company LLP, a meadow garden was planted using an original technique on 1 hectare and mulched with plastic film was carried out in order to optimize the water regime.
2. A license agreement was concluded with Semirechye Nursery LLP for the sale of the technological protocol.
3. The website “Shyrganac” (https://shyrganaq.kz) was created. This work includes all advertising work to promote the product and technology. A scientific and practical training seminar was also held.

Information for potential users
We offer a highly effective technology for growing sea buckthorn, providing a guaranteed profit of about 40 million tenge/ha and a yield of 40 t/ha already in the third year after planting. The demand for grown products on the republican market is currently unlimited.
