Sports horse breeds and their physiology

On October 18, 2025, a training seminar on "Sports horse breeds and their physiology" (Horse breeding) was held at the Almaty Hippodrome, Tengri-Invest LLP, 10A Omarova Street, Almaty.

The theoretical part of the seminar consisted of one educational lecture with the involvement of a scientist from the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University:

Lecture - "Sports breeds of horses and their physiology", lecturer Iskhan Kairat Zhalely – Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University.

The topic of the lecture reveals: Classification of sports breeds of horses.

1. Racing (cross-country) horse breeds. Racehorses are characterized by high speed, endurance, and the ability to develop maximum power over short and medium distances. These animals have a light, dry type of constitution, well-developed respiratory and cardiovascular systems, as well as increased reactivity of nervous activity. Main breeds: English Thoroughbred. Arabian breed (Arabian horse. Akhal-Teke horse.

2. Breeds used for show jumping and triathlon competitions. These breeds are distinguished by their harmonious physique, strong bones, powerful musculature and balanced temperament. They show excellent abilities in jumping over obstacles, dressage and triathlon due to their high coordination of movements and learning ability.

3. Breeds designed for endurance competitions.

The practical part of the seminar was devoted to the zootechnical assessment of sports and riding horses at the racetrack. During the seminar, the participants were shown that this process includes a comprehensive analysis of the external structure, quality of movements, physiological parameters and behavioral characteristics of animals, which together allows them to objectively identify their athletic potential.

Following the results of the seminar, the knowledge gained was tested, the topics of the lectures were discussed, questionnaires and certificates were presented.
