Coordination meeting on the ALMA-KIKA project

On November 27, 2024, Vice-Rector Rafis Fanisovich Abazov and the International Office of KazNARU hosted a regular meeting of the ALMA-KIKA project. The event was held in the office of the Institute of Green and Sustainable Development and brought together leading experts and project participants interested in promoting sustainable regional management and preserving old apple varieties in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, several important issues were discussed. Participants discussed the issues of updating the composition of the working group of the KazGIEB Institute (Kazakh-German Institute for the Protection of Ecosystems and Biodiversity). At the meeting, it was announced that a new director of the KazGIEB Institute should be appointed. This appointment should give a new impetus to the development of the institute and strengthen its scientific and research positions in the international arena.

A discussion of the current status and progress of the ALMA project was held. The meeting participants discussed the current status and results of the project "Sustainable regional management of ALMA and creating value for preserving old apple varieties." 
The participants highlighted the importance of continuing work on preserving biodiversity and sustainable development of agricultural areas in Central Asia.

They suggested holding events within the project, such as "apple weeks". They also discussed participation in the conference "Green Business Pavilion: Sustainable Solutions for Climate Protection and Economic Growth", which is held with the support of the German diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan.

On the agenda was a proposal from KazNARU to participate in the conference "Green Business Pavilion: Sustainable Solutions for Climate Protection and Economic Growth", which will be held on December 3, 2024 at the Intercontinental Almaty Hotel. The participants expressed their readiness to present the results of their research and discuss opportunities for further cooperation in the field of sustainable development and climate protection.

The working group also discussed the roadmap for holding events in 2025 and the preparation of visual materials and reports. One of the important points of the meeting was the preparation of visual materials and reports on the ALMA-KIKA project. Participants agreed on the need to create high-quality and informative presentations that will be presented at upcoming events and conferences.

In the "Miscellaneous" section, participants discussed additional issues. Thus, Rysmagambetova Aina Akanovna, PhD, Deputy Dean for Scientific and Innovative Activities and International Relations of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University put forward proposals related to the promotion of the project and strengthening of international cooperation. Azhar Dzhandosova, Director of the Almaly Zhumak Public Foundation, spoke about the cultural and educational event that is planned for the near future to popularize interest in wild apple varieties.

The meeting ended with the adoption of a number of decisions aimed at further developing the ALMA-KIKA project and strengthening cooperation with international partners. Participants expressed confidence that new appointments and agreements reached will allow them to successfully implement all the goals and objectives.

The ALMA-KIKA project meeting, chaired by Vice-Rector Rafis Abazov, was an important step towards sustainable regional development and biodiversity conservation in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The participants confirmed their commitment to the project objectives and expressed their readiness for active work in the future.
