The field of healthy nutrition

The Kazakh Academy of Nutrition is a scientific institution. Under the leadership of the founder of the institution, T.Sh.Sharmanov, over the 50-year history of the Academy, a unique base was created for the implementation of scientific research on biomedical problems in the field of nutrition. During the Soviet period, the Academy of Medical Sciences was established by the Kazakh branch of the Institute of Nutrition in 1973 in Almaty. And in 1991, the Institute of Regional Nutrition Problems, in 1993 it became a scientific center for regional nutrition problems. In 2000, it was transformed into JSC «Institute of Nutrition» of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2002 – into JSC «Academy of Nutrition».
Academician Toregeldy Sharmanovich Sharmanov, Kazakh scientist-hygienist-nutritionist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, «Hero of Labor of Kazakhstan», twice laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laureate of the highest prize of the World Health Organization named after Leonard Bernard, founder, permanent president of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition, the pride of Kazakh medicine, a legend of world health.
The main scientific works are devoted to the physiology of nutrition. He investigated the consequences of eating disorders, drew conclusions about the lack of protein and vitamins in the human body, and revealed the history of Meshel's disease. Under his leadership, nutritional supplements for infants were released: «Bobek», «Aruana», «Anticholesterol». 
Currently, the Department of «Nutritionology» of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.Zh.Asfendiyarov is engaged in this area. An urgent problem of this department is the training of qualified specialists in the field of food science, as well as conducting educational work. The department is the first and only one in the post-Soviet space, organized in 1994 at a medical university in order to train students of the medical, pediatric, and preventive medicine faculties of the university.
In honor of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Nutrition, in memory of its founder, Academician T.Sh.Sharmanov, as well as in the course of further development of the field of nutrition, a meeting with KazNARU students was held in 2024, on November 12, in the assembly hall of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition.
