The role of the Department of Animal Engineering of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University in study personnel for agriculture
The department was organized in 1930. In those years it was called “General and Small Animal Science”, which was led by Associate Professor L.I. Krupennikova. Subsequently, in accordance with the requirements of the time, the department was reorganized several times and currently the department is called “Animal Engineering” as part of the faculty “Animal Engineering and Food Production Technology”. The department is headed by Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Adylkanova Sh.R.
The scientific potential and consistency of the department remains at a high level and amounts to more than 80%. There are 13 teachers working at the department. Among them are 2 academicians, 10 professors, 1 associate professor, who teach classes in all main areas of livestock farming: sheep breeding, cattle breeding, horse breeding, poultry farming, beekeeping, etc. Study is carried out along three educational paths: bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies.
One of the interesting and promising areas is poultry farming. Despite the fact that breeding and raising various types of poultry is a rather labor-intensive process, it is at the same time characterized by rapid rates of reproduction, intensive growth, high productivity and viability. Due to the high degree of mechanization and automation of production processes, growing poultry requires less human labor and material resources per unit of production than in other livestock sectors.
The main products of poultry farming are eggs and meat, and additional products are feather and down raw materials and organic fertilizer (dung). At the present stage of development, the most common agricultural bird species are chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, and quails.
According to the Union of Poultry Farmers of Kazakhstan, there are 58 poultry farms in the country for egg and meat production, which require graduates of agricultural universities in the field of poultry farming.
To provide the country's poultry farms and farms with highly qualified specialists, a lot of work is being done at the department. Thus, the department is equipped with specialized classrooms for conducting lectures and laboratory practical classes, which are equipped with modern multimedia tools. To conduct scientific research, the department operates several scientific laboratories in various areas of animal husbandry, poultry farming and beekeeping. From the first year, students participate in the work of student clubs such as “Zoo Engineer”, “Poultry Farmer”, “Beekeeper”, “Milk Academy”, etc.
Students acquire practical skills while undergoing practical study and conducting scientific research in leading poultry farms and large farms and peasant enterprises in the country.
In recent years, beekeeping has been intensively developing in the country. For this purpose, the state provides great support in the form of government orders and subsidies. Businesses that began to invest significant funds in this industry did not stand aside. The current gross honey harvest is estimated at 8 thousand tons annually. At the same time, the number of bee families in the country is about 456 thousand, beekeepers - about 12 thousand people. The average honey yield in a stationary apiary is 20-30 kg per bee colony. For qualified beekeepers who move 3-5 times per season from the southeast to the northeast of the country, the honey yield is 120-150 kg per bee colony. Therefore, Kazakhstan has great potential for honey production by increasing the number of bee colonies.
To implement tasks related to the further development of beekeeping and, first of all, to the training of personnel for this industry, the department operates an educational and scientific laboratory “Ecological monitoring of the naturalness and quality of beekeeping products named after S.A. Tereshchenko." The laboratory is equipped with the necessary equipment, including a device with gas-discharge visualization for accelerated assessment of the quality indicators of beekeeping products. In addition, the staff of the department has improved a program for determining the breed of honey bees Apis Mellifera bred in breeding farms of the country.
Teachers and staff of the department conduct scientific research within the framework of the program “Development of cultivation and reproduction technologies in beekeeping based on adapted resource-energy-saving and digital technologies for various natural and climatic zones of Kazakhstan.” The results obtained are used when giving lectures and conducting laboratory and practical classes on beekeeping.
Thus, the efforts of the department’s staff are aimed at fulfilling the tasks set in the university’s development strategy to enter the top 400 best universities in the world and raising the image of Kazakhstani science in the global scientific and educational space.
To obtain the necessary professional knowledge in the field of livestock farming, poultry farming and beekeeping, we invite you, dear applicants, to the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University.
