The event was held at an international level with the participation of Maliha Chowdhurry, a Fulbright English Language Teaching Assistant. The event was aimed at promoting language learning, presenting the cultures and traditions of the world’s peoples, developing students’ linguistic and intercultural competence, and unlocking the creative potential of young people. Instead of a traditional format, the Department of Languages organized a modern interactive platform combining creative work, games and quizzes.

The event was held under the motto “Language and Culture – the Path to the Complete Person”. The key idea: “Learning a language is not just learning words. By learning a language, we come to know another person, another culture and ourselves.” This idea is closely linked to Abai’s concept of the “Complete Person” (Tolyq Adam): language is not merely a means of communication but a tool that shapes a person’s culture, worldview and moral values.

The hosts welcomed the faculty members, students and guests, and stressed that language is not only a means of communication but also a carrier of cultural values, traditions and worldviews. The motto and key idea of the event – “Language and Culture – the Path to the Complete Person” – were presented in connection with Abai’s concept of the “Complete Person” (Tolyq Adam). They presented the two-part programme of the event.

While the jury counted the points, the participants waited for the results. A member of the jury announced the results and the winning team. The guests of honour, Maliha Chowdhurry and Dosmailova Gaukhar Kuanyshkyzy, praised the students’ quick wit and eagerness to learn. Finally, honorary awards were presented to the winners and the most active participants, after which the hosts delivered the closing words.

The event achieved its goals. Participants practised speaking English in a real communicative situation, expanded their knowledge of the culture, traditions and languages of different countries, and developed teamwork, creativity and quick thinking.

Senior Lecturers of the Department of Languages: Myrzakhmet M. Zh., Djamaldinova M. T.
