KazNARU DELEGATION PARTICIPATES IN THE 5th FORUM OF RECTORS OF AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITIES OF THE SCO MEMBER STATES
On July 7, 2026, the 5th Forum of Rectors of Agricultural Universities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States and the 11th Annual Conference of the Silk Road Alliance for Agricultural Education and Scientific and Technological Innovation were held in Xi'an, People's Republic of China.
The international forum brought together leaders of leading agricultural universities, scientists, and experts from Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and other countries. Participants discussed current issues related to the development of agricultural science and education, the integration of science and industry, the application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in agriculture, food security, and the expansion of international scientific cooperation.
Primkul Ibragimov, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board – Rector of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), participated in the forum and delivered a presentation entitled "Developing Strategic Cooperation between the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University and Chinese Universities in Agricultural Education and Science."
In his speech, Primkul Sholpankulovich Ibragimov emphasized that agriculture is currently facing global challenges, including climate change, soil degradation, water scarcity, and the need to ensure food security. In this context, he highlighted the growing role of agricultural universities as centers of science and innovation, developing advanced technologies and research-based solutions for sustainable agricultural development.
He also presented KazNARU's achievements in international cooperation. Today, the University maintains more than 200 partnership agreements with leading foreign universities and research organizations, including over 60 partnerships with Chinese universities and research centers. Joint research laboratories, the Smart Agriculture Center, collaborative projects on efficient water resource management, agricultural drones, artificial intelligence, and technology transfer are contributing to a new level of agricultural science cooperation between the two countries.
During his presentation, the KazNARU representative also introduced several initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation within the SCO framework. These included the establishment of a network of joint research centers in priority areas of agricultural science, the expansion of dual-degree and academic mobility programs, and the creation of a unified scientific and innovation platform for agricultural universities across the SCO member states.
The meetings and discussions held during the forum are expected to provide new momentum for strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China in agricultural science and higher education, expanding joint research projects, and enhancing international academic collaboration.
