Presentation of the Scientific and Educational Collection “Zhylky Tüligi” Held in Almaty to Mark the Year of the Horse 2026

An important scientific and cultural event took place at the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan — the presentation of the new book “Zhylky Tüligi” (“The Equine Species”) and a round table discussion titled “Development of Innovative Technologies for Horse Breeding.”

The event was organized with the support of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), the “Ketbuka-Tölegetai” International Public Foundation, and the Zhangir Khan West Kazakhstan Agritechnical University.

The significance of the publication

The authors of the newly presented scientific and educational collection are Professor Kairat Zhaleluly Iskhan and Aybek Mutalapkhanuly Karimov. The work was prepared as part of the scientific project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan — “Application of Molecular Genetic Methods for Optimizing the Management of Horse Genetic Resources and Developing Innovative Technologies for Productive Horse Breeding” (BR22887106) — dedicated to the Year of the Horse 2026.

The book covers a wide range of issues related to horse breeding, including:

  • the origin, anatomy, physiology, and exterior traits of the Kazakh horse;
  • the image of the horse in nomadic civilization and ancient Turkic culture, and the historical significance of steeds;
  • the current state of horse breeding and breeding improvement programs in Kazakhstan;
  • the history of equestrian sports and the scientific basis for selecting horses for baige and kokpar;
  • horseback arts, traditional hunting (saiatshylyk), and equine tourism development.
