Since 2016, through the merger of the two departments "Technology of Food Production and Food Safety" and "Food Engineering", a new independent department "Technology and Food Safety" has been created. Currently, the chair is headed by Ph.D., associate professor L.A. Mamaev.
The department conducts classes in 6 educational programs. Educational program "Standardization and certification" (by industry), has three levels of education, "Technology of processing industries" (by industry), "Technology of food products", "Food Safety" educational programs specialists are provided. All educational levels have state licenses. There are computer classes connected with the Internet, in the expansion of students' knowledge. Here students and undergraduates carry out their work and the current strategic plan and mission is to comply with the plans of the University to provide a wide range of competitive domestic food products to meet the quantitative and qualitative needs of the population.
The faculty employs 19 teachers, including 3 doctors of science, 7 candidates of science and 2 PhD. Specialized laboratories equipped with special equipment are working at the department for research work of students, undergraduates and doctoral students, as well as for educational and research work at the department. These is: "International Scientific Research Center for Processing Technology" (Prof. Ospanov A.).

History of the department in 1953, the department was organized in accordance with the widespread development of livestock and the need for further study of this discipline. The first head of the department was Associate Professor Ye. Volchenko. At this stage, the chemical composition and properties of the milk of Karakul sheep are studied.
Since 1960, he was appointed the head of the department Z.S. Seitov.
From 1973 to 1983, the department was headed by Associate Professor U.Zh. Mustafin.
Since 1984 the department was headed by Associate professor
Zh.K. Karimov.
In 1998 the department "Technologies of processing and standardization of livestock products" was established, AK Smagulov was appointed the head of the department.
In 2001 the department "Standardization and Quality of Agricultural Products" was established. The scientists of Smagulov AK, Barakbayev BB, Alzhanova AS, Zhomartov MT, Bupebaeva LK, Isayeva GS made a great contribution to the formation and development of the department. and so on. The head of the department was Smagulov Agibay Kusmanovich.
In 2010, special attention was paid to the specialties "Technology of food products", "Technology of processing products of productions" and "Standardization and certification" and decided to reorganize the department in the direction "Technology of food products and food safety" by the decision of the Academic Council of the University, appointed head of the department - Professor A.A. Ospanov. He is a well-known scientist with a scientific school in the technology of processing industries. In 2012-2014 Professor Ospanov AA headed two projects on grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Based on the results of these projects, the first time in KazNAU was given the opportunity to create a research and development center "Technology of processing products" which consist of three laboratories (1 - technology and quality of grain and grain products, 2 - technology of baking bread and bakery products, 3 - technology of food extrusion ).
In 2011, thanks to the opening of the Master's program and the expansion of the educational process, the department was renamed "Biotechnology and Food Safety". Professor A. Serikbaeva was appointed the head of the department. Scientific direction Serikbayeva A.D. - "Biotechnology, milk and meat quality and safety of farm animals". Under her leadership, probiotic products based on camel milk were developed and introduced, and Daulet-Becket LLP and Ermakhanov IP were introduced.

Annually the department strengthens its international relations with private higher educational institutions and scientific institutions of foreign countries: Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, France, Malaysia, Finland, Bulgaria, Italy, Slovakia, Romania and others. Scientific relations with countries are developing. International scientific contacts are reflected in various forms, including the exchange of scientific literature, the publication of monographs and textbooks in cooperation with foreign scientists, participation in scientific conferences, meetings with leading scientists from other countries.
