The Department of IT Technology trains highly qualified specialists for the dynamically developing IT sector of the national economy. Those who receive knowledge acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of IT directions. In the future, they will be used in large IT companies and can modernize innovative technologies in the agricultural sector of our country.
The department trains specialists in the following educational programs:

To date, 18 teachers work at the department, 6 of them are freelance: 1 Doctor of Sciences, 5 associate professors, 8 Masters, 4 PhD.
In April 1996, on the basis of the departments: "Information Systems" (former KSHI) and "Computer Engineering and Modeling in animal husbandry" (former AZVI), the department "Modeling of agricultural systems" was organized. By order of the rector No. 169 dated 10/30/1997, the Center for Computer Technologies of Education (CCTO, head Akhmetov K.A.) was organized, which included the departments of "Modeling of agricultural systems" (head of the department. Akhmetov K.A.), "Information systems" (Head of the department. Seidalieva G.O.) and the "Computing Center". Due to the change in the structure of the university and in order to bring the staff of departments in line with regulatory requirements, its structure and name have been repeatedly changed.
By order of the University for No. L-17 dated 03/19/2001, on the basis of two departments: "Modeling of agricultural systems" and "Information Systems", the Department of "Information Technologies and Modeling of agricultural Systems" was organized (head of the department. Akhmetov K.A.), which functioned until the end of the 2001-2002 academic year.
In order to effectively manage the educational process, by University order No.op-212 dated 08/22/2002, the Department of Information Technology and Modeling of Agricultural Systems was divided into two independent departments: "Modeling of agricultural systems" (head of the department. Akhmetov K.A.) and "Information systems" (head of the department. Seidalieva G.O.), who became part of the IIT KazNAU.
Subsequently, the department was transformed into the Department of Natural Sciences and Information Technology (Head of the Department. Aldibayeva L.T.), which operated in the period from 2013 to 2016.
In order to improve the structure and staff of the department, by University Order No. 100-LC dated 02/18/2016, by restructuring the Department of Natural Sciences and Information Technology into two independent departments, the Department of Automation and Information Technology was formed on 02/04/2016.
In 2018, there was a merger of two departments. Since 07/23/2018, according to the order, the department of "IT Technology and Automation" was established, the department was headed by Ph.D., Professor Serikbayev A.U. and since January 2023, the department is headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Amanbayeva Elmira Amangeldievna.
The faculty of the Department of IT Technology and Automation provides a high level of professional, scientific, technical, educational and methodological training of new generation specialists.
ㅤㅤ Training of undergraduates of OP 7M06102 - "Information Systems" has been carried out since 2004 in the scientific, pedagogical and profile direction with the assignment of an academic degree – Master of Technical Sciences, on the basis of state license No. 0062189 dated 07/02/2008.
ㅤㅤ Training is conducted in three languages: state, Russian and English.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, the Kazakh National Agrarian University took part in the annual national ranking of universities and the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (NAAR) agency.
In this ranking, KazNAIU took the sixth place among the TOP 20 universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the results of the independent agency for Quality assurance in education - 2016 rating, specialty 7M06102 - "Information Systems" took the 6th place.
The national specialized accreditation of 18 educational programs in the Independent Accreditation and Rating Agency (NAAR) took place at the Kazakh National Agrarian University from 08 to 10 November 2016. According to the accreditation procedure, the WEC met with the first vice-rector and vice-rectors, deans of faculties, heads of departments and heads of structural divisions of the university. Within the framework of specialized accreditation of 18 educational programs at three levels of education: bachelor's degree-master's degree-doctoral studies, the VEK visited the Kazakh-Japanese and Kazakh-Korean innovation centers, the scientific library, the Water Resources Center, the O. Suleimenov Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education and Upbringing, the linguistic educational center "Time to study". External experts also visited graduate departments, educational laboratories, and practice bases for educational programs. There were meetings and conversations with teaching staff, undergraduates, doctoral students, employers and graduates of educational programs.
According to the results of the rating of educational programs of the Higher Educational Institution of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken", specialty 7M06102 - "Information Systems" took 2nd place.
The department has research laboratories: "Modeling of agricultural systems", "Computer networks".
Based on the decision of the university management, the department of "IT technology and Automation" was renamed "IT technology". Before the renaming, the department was headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Amanbayeva E.A. Currently, the department is headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Makashev Yerlan Prmaganbetovich.
The full–time staff of the department is 18 people (doctors of sciences – 1, associate professors – 5, PhD doctors – 4, masters - 8), settling down – 54.5%.
