Gulnaz Baiseitova is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Agronomy, a specialist engaged in scientific-pedagogical and research activities in the fields of plant breeding, plant biotechnology, and plant physiology. She is currently Acting Associate Professor (PhD) at the Department of Agronomy, Breeding and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agrobiology, Kazakh National Agrarian Research University.
From 1998 to 2002, she studied at the Faculty of Biology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and the qualification of a biology teacher for secondary education institutions. From 2002 to 2004, she completed her Master’s degree in Biotechnology at the same faculty and was awarded the academic degree of Master of Biotechnology.
Between 2004 and 2006, she pursued postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Biology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, conducting scientific research. Continuing her academic career, she later enrolled in a PhD doctoral program at the Faculty of Agrobiology of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University from 2017 to 2020, where she defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the specialty 6D080100 – Agronomy.
She began her scientific career at the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology of the Science Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where she worked as a senior laboratory assistant, junior researcher, researcher, and senior researcher. During this period, she conducted studies in plant physiology, plant biotechnology, and plant breeding. Since 2020, she has been continuing her scientific and pedagogical activities at the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, actively contributing to the training of specialists in agrobiology, genetics, plant breeding, and biotechnology.
Research Interests and Areas of Study
The research activities of G. Baiseitova are focused on enhancing the genetic potential of agricultural crops, studying plant resistance to adverse environmental factors, and developing high-yielding and adaptive varieties using biotechnological methods.
Main research areas include:
-
study and breeding evaluation of genetic resources of agricultural crops;
-
investigation of biological and agronomic traits of rice, sweet sorghum, and soybean;
-
identification of physiological and biochemical mechanisms of plant resistance to abiotic stress factors (salinity, drought, etc.);
-
selection of new disease-resistant genotypes using marker-assisted selection (MAS);
-
improvement of productivity and quality of crops through biotechnological approaches.
She has participated in a number of scientific projects. In particular, she conducted research within projects aimed at improving rice resistance to the pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae and developing rice varieties with colored pericarp resistant to blast disease. She also served as a principal investigator in projects focused on studying the productivity and stress resistance of sweet sorghum.
Scientific Achievements
The research results of G. Baiseitova have been published in international and national scientific journals. Her articles appear in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. In addition, several publications have been issued in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Her scientific publications address issues of crop breeding, plant salinity tolerance, biological characteristics of sweet sorghum, and contemporary challenges in rice breeding.
Through her research activities, she contributes to projects aimed at improving the productivity and resilience of agricultural crops, disseminating results through scientific publications and practical recommendations. In her academic work, she actively involves students and young researchers in scientific research, thereby contributing to the development of agricultural science.
