Gulsun Ongarovna Bayadilova is a Candidate of Biological Sciences (06.01.05 – Plant Breeding and Seed Production), Certificate No. AP 0001578. She is an Associate Professor (Docent) in the scientific field of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries. She is a specialist engaged in academic, teaching, and research activities in plant breeding, plant biotechnology, plant physiology, biotechnological breeding, and forest biotechnology.
Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Agronomy, Breeding and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agrobiology, Kazakh National Agrarian Research University.
In 1983, she was enrolled in preparatory courses at the Kazakh Order of the Red Banner of Labour Agricultural Institute, becoming a full-time student in 1984. In 1989, she graduated from the Faculty of Plant Protection with a degree in Plant Protection and Quarantine, obtaining the qualification of agronomist-scientist.
After graduation, she was assigned to the Plant Protection Station in Blagoveshchenka village, Zhambyl district, North Kazakhstan region, where she headed the department for forecasting and signaling of pests and diseases of agricultural crops.
From 1991 to 1997, she worked as a researcher in the Department of Phytopathology at the Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection.
From 1998 to 2005, she carried out academic and research activities at the “Biotech” Research Laboratory and the Department of Agronomy and Biotechnology of the Kazakh National Agrarian University (as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor), conducting fundamental research in breeding biotechnology.
During this period, she actively participated in the research project “Development of technology for rapid propagation of virus-free seed potatoes using biotechnological methods.”
In 2010, she defended her dissertation on “Optimization of technology for rapid propagation of virus-free seed potatoes using biotechnological methods” and obtained the academic degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences.
Since 1998 to the present, she has been working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Agronomy, Breeding and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agrobiology, Kazakh National Agrarian Research University. She actively contributes to training specialists in agrobiology, genetics, plant breeding, plant biotechnology, and commercial biotechnology.

Her research focuses on enhancing the breeding and biotechnological potential of agricultural crops, studying plant resistance to adverse environmental factors, and developing high-yielding and adaptive varieties using biotechnological approaches.

identification of physiological and biochemical mechanisms of plant resistance to abiotic stresses (salinity, drought, etc.);

application of marker-assisted selection (MAS) for selecting disease-resistant genotypes;
-
improvement of crop productivity and quality using biotechnological methods.
She has participated in multiple research projects, including those aimed at improving potato resistance to viral diseases (X, Y, M, S) and fungal diseases (late blight, fusarium, rhizoctonia), as well as soybean breeding and stress resistance studies.
Scientific Achievements
The results of her research have been published in international and national scientific journals, including those indexed in Scopus. She has also published in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Her publications cover plant breeding and biotechnology, plant resistance to drought, viral and fungal diseases, salinity, production of virus-free seed potatoes, and soybean breeding.
She actively participates in research projects aimed at improving crop productivity and sustainability and contributes to training young scientists (Master’s and PhD students).

2 PhD students are preparing for dissertation defense in Plant Breeding.
In 2025, she completed a three-month international internship at the Institute of Plant Genetic Resources named after K. Malkov (Bulgaria) under the “Bolashak” International Scholarship and the “500 Scientists” program. She holds an international certificate.
