Relevance
For the first time, a new-generation vector vaccine will be developed, including VP2 and VP2/4/3 IBDV proteins expressed using a baculovirus system, to provide effective protection against an epizootic IBDV strain isolated in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Project objective
To develop a baculovirus-based vector vaccine against infectious bursal disease in chickens
Expected and achieved results
1. An optimal technology for cultivation of recombinant baculovirus for expression of IBD virus antigens will be developed
2. A vector vaccine against IBD will be created
3. Preclinical studies of the experimental vaccine batch will be conducted in chickens
4. Regulatory and technical documentation for production and quality control of the vector vaccine against IBD will be developed.
At least two (2) articles and/or reviews will be published in peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded and ranked in the first (Q1) and/or second (Q2) quartile by impact factor in the Web of Science database and/or having a CiteScore percentile of at least 65 in the Scopus database; at least one (1) article or review will be published in a peer-reviewed international or domestic journal recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education (CQASHE), and one (1) invention application will be submitted to the Kazakhstan Patent Office.
Information for potential users
At present, the livestock sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan is highly dependent on imported veterinary drugs and vaccines. In this regard, the development and production of a domestic vector vaccine within Kazakhstan is of great importance for ensuring the country’s food and biological security.
The project is aimed at creating a unique domestic vaccine against infectious bursal disease of chickens based on a baculovirus vector, which is resistant to interference by maternal antibodies. This will enhance the effectiveness of specific prevention and reduce economic losses in the poultry industry through decreased mortality and improved flock health.
The implementation of the project will contribute to the development of domestic production of highly immunogenic vector vaccines based on modern recombinant technologies. The obtained results will enable the establishment of competitive veterinary product manufacturing and provide poultry enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan with an effective vaccine for the prevention of infectious bursal disease of chickens, which has not previously been produced in the country.
