Relevance
Currently, emcar occupies one of the leading places in the infectious pathology of acute infectious diseases of animals in Kazakhstan, second only to rabies in terms of the number of foci of infection. Analysis of the number of registered outbreaks of emcar with a duration of 10 years (2013-2022) indicates the annual, significant spread of emcar on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan (from 19 to 81 outbreaks) and its stationarity (there was not a single year in the Republic of Kazakhstan when there were no outbreaks of emcar). From 2013 to 2021, 1,031 heads of cattle fell ill and were destroyed in 394 outbreaks of the disease. Emphysematous carbuncle of cattle is common in many regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, regardless of geographical location and soil and climatic conditions. If the disease is not detected in time and appropriate measures are not taken, it will cause serious damage to the republic’s livestock production. In dysfunctional farms, emcar causes great damage due to the death of animals and the costs of carrying out anti-epizootic measures. Despite ongoing anti-epizootic measures and routine preventive vaccinations, in disadvantaged areas the disease remains a serious problem.
Project Goals
Development of accelerated methods for diagnosing emkar, based on the rapid (within 5-10 minutes) detection of the pathogen from pathological material from animals or from environmental objects, as well as on the accelerated detection of specific antibodies in the blood of infected or vaccinated animals (within 3-4 hours).
Expected and/or achieved results
1) The results of scientific research obtained within the framework of the project will be published in at least 2 (two) articles in journals from the first three quartiles of the impact factor in the WebofScience database or having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 50.
2) 2 patents (utility model) will be obtained in the Kazakhstan Patent Office;
3) (NTD) for a method for diagnosing emkar in animals will be developed;
4) Based on the materials of the completed work, 1 dissertation for the degree of Master of Science and 1 diploma project in the specialty "Veterinary Medicine" will be prepared and defended.
Information for potential users
The scope of application and target consumers of each of the expected results are livestock farms of the republic, the Republican Veterinary Laboratory, including 16 regional, 5 regional and 192 district veterinary laboratories; the National Reference Center for Veterinary Medicine of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, universities, colleges specializing in Veterinary Medicine and research organizations of the country studying these issues.
