About the project
Relevance
- the comparative effectiveness of elemental sulfur and sulfuric acid ameliorants, innovative for the republic, on soda-saline soils was studied for the first time;
- the peculiarities of the chemical interaction of the tested ameliorants with soda-saline soils are revealed;
- parameters have been developed for the technology of reclamation of fine- and medium-spotted pockets of soda-saline soils with elemental sulfur and sulfuric acid, adapted to the peculiarities of soil reclamation (carrying out reclamation work without the construction of drainage systems) and production (irrigation by flood and sprinkling or their combinations) conditions of farming in foothill plains of south-east Kazakhstan
The purpose of the project
To develop the scientific and technological basis for the reclamation of soda-saline soils in the foothill plains of South-East Kazakhstan with elemental sulfur and sulfuric acid. The goal will be achieved by studying the specifics of the effects of equivalent doses of ameliorants (including phosphogypsum) on soil processes, first in laboratory model experiments with subsequent testing of promising options in the natural occurrence of soda-saline soils of focal distribution
Expected and achieved results
- The genesis and geographical and topographical features of the distribution of soda-saline soils in the foothill plain of the South-East of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be established and the features of their soil-reclamation state will be determined;
- The comparative reclamation efficiencies of phosphogypsum, elemental sulfur and sulfuric acid on soda-saline soils will be determined and scientific and technological bases for their use adapted to the natural and industrial conditions of the region will be developed.

Information for potential users
It is necessary to take advantage of the successes of countries that have proven advanced technologies for reclamation of soda-saline soils, borrowing individual elements and technical means of their implementation and adapting them to the specifics of our soil, climatic and production conditions
