About the project
Relevance
Protection of walnut crops from diseases that cause significant damage to plantations is one of the main measures aimed at increasing the productivity of varieties. Due to the lack of information on the prevalence and development of diseases of walnut in Kazakhstan, the study of their pathogens and genetic resistance of promising varieties is of paramount importance. The obtained results of the study will provide an opportunity to identify loci associated with resistance of walnut varieties to dangerous pathogens by using innovative molecular genetic methods. The results obtained will make a significant contribution to solving the problems of spreading diseases of walnut and breeding of resistant varieties, relevant not only in Kazakhstan.
Purpose
Identification and study of pathogens of the main walnut diseases by microbiological and molecular genetic methods, assessment of the genetic potential of resistance of varieties to the most economically important pathogens and development of recommendations for protection against diseases to improve the breeding process and increase the productivity of plantations.
Expected and achieved results
Pathogens of economically significant walnut diseases in the studied varieties and genotypes have been identified, the prevalence and dynamics of disease development depending on the geographical location of the garden, population and climatic conditions have been revealed.
Molecular genetic identification of pathogens and genetic studies of Marssonina juglandis populations were carried out, with the identification of strains, lines and recombinations. The resistance of local and foreign walnut varieties to economically significant pathogens common in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been revealed. The results of the analysis of SNP genotyping of different walnut populations showed significant genetic diversity among walnut samples from the Southern region of Kazakhstan.
Information for potential users
Innovative and competitive advantages of the project will be ensured through the introduction of promising walnut varieties resistant to major diseases in farms into practical nut growing, which will increase walnut yields to an average of 4t/ha.
