About the project
Relevance
Using high-throughput sequencing, researchers will obtain data on all microorganisms, including non-cultivated, living in the intestines of Kazakh horses, from various geographical areas, identify species and determine their epidemiological significance.
Target
The aim of the project is to study the species diversity of microbial communities of the upper respiratory tract and intestines of native horse breeds using high-throughput next-generation sequencing, identification of pathogens, including non-culturable ones, and bioinformatic analysis of the microbiome for use in breeding and veterinary genetics.
Achieved results
High-throughput metagenomic sequencing of 16S rRNA, DNA isolated from samples of freshly isolated feces and nasopharyngeal swabs taken from horses from various regions of Kazakhstan was carried out. An evolutionary and phylogenetic analysis of microorganisms will be carried out. For bioinformatics analysis, the resulting sequences will be collected and processed in the Geneious program. An information bulletin on the microbiome of horses from various regions of Kazakhstan will be created. 2 articles will be published with a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 35 (thirty-five).
Information for potential users
The study of the metagenome of horses of the Kazakh breed from various regions of Kazakhstan will provide basic epizootological information about pathogens, which will allow you to quickly identify possible sources of zoonotic infections and their subsequent control.
