PRODUCTIVE MEETING OF THE KAZAKH DELEGATION WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF WAGENINGEN UNIVERSITY: PROSPECTS FOR JOINT RESEARCH AND GRANT PROJECTS
On September 4, the Kazakh delegation held a productive meeting with the representatives of Wageningen University (Netherlands), one of the world's leading centers in the field of agriculture, food and ecology. The delegation, consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, NANOC and the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), discussed prospects for cooperation in research, joint grants and exchange of experience.
In his speech, Azat Sultanov, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, expressed confidence in the prospects for further development of partnership relations between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands in the field of agriculture and sustainable development. He noted that Kazakhstan sees significant potential in cooperation with Wageningen University for the introduction of advanced technologies and innovations in the country's agricultural sector. "We are ready to maintain and develop our relations to ensure a sustainable future for agriculture in Kazakhstan. Cooperation with such a reputable university as Wageningen will open new horizons for our scientists and farmers," said Azat Sultanov.
One of the key participants of the meeting was Dr. Kalyan Guntuboyina. He presented information about Wageningen University and its research priorities. He emphasized that the university is known for being one of the best in Europe and in the world in cutting-edge research in the field of sustainable agriculture, food security, biodiversity and climate change. "Our university strives to create knowledge that contributes to the sustainable development of society. We are pleased to consider opportunities for cooperation with Kazakhstan to address global challenges such as climate change," said Dr. Guntuboyna.
Professor Kirsten de Beurs shared information about her scientific interests and research work in Central Asia. She spoke about the possibility of working together on the implementation of a grant application with KazNARU for the study of arid territories and steppes of Kazakhstan and Mongolia. "These territories are unique in their ecosystem and require a deep understanding for conservation and sustainable use. Our cooperation will allow us to combine the efforts of scientists from both countries and provide a scientific basis for the protection of these natural landscapes," said Professor de Bears.
Dr. Monica Sopov also made an important proposal. She voiced the idea of a joint application for a grant to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) together with KazNARU. The goal of this project is to support sustainable agriculture and environmental initiatives in Kazakhstan. "Our joint work within the framework of this grant can be an important contribution to the development of rural areas, improving farming methods and supporting local communities," emphasized Dr. Monica Sopov.
Vice-Rector for International Relations of KazNARU, Rafis Abazov presented the university's vision for internationalization, digitalization and expansion of international cooperation. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of attracting international students, developing online education and partnerships with leading global universities to improve the quality of education and research, education for sustainable development and promoting biodiversity.
The meeting ended with a mutual expression of readiness for active cooperation and the development of joint projects. Both sides agreed on the need for further meetings and consultations to discuss in detail the steps to implement the planned activities.
