VICE PREMIER OF THE STATE COUNCIL OF THE PRC VISITED KazNARU

On May 17, 2024, a government delegation led by the Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Liu Guozhong, visited the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University and learned about the university's scientific and innovative activities.

✅ The meeting was attended by the Vice-Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erbol Taszhurekov.

✅ During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding and strengthening the relations between KazNARU and Chinese scientific and educational centers.

✅Chairman of the Board - Rector, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akhylbek Kurishbayev, emphasized that Kazakhstan is a reliable partner of China in Central Asia and supports the “One Belt - One Road” initiative. He highlighted that neighboring countries fruitfully cooperate in various areas, including the agricultural sector.

✅ “KazNARU plays a leading role in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation and implements many large-scale scientific projects on deep processing in the agricultural sector, effective management of water resources, regional food security, and combating the consequences of climate change. KazNARU has signed agreements with more than 20 leading universities in China to implement educational programs and joint scientific research. Our partners include China Agricultural University (Beijing), Xinjiang Agricultural University, Sichuan Agricultural Academy, Northwestern University of Agriculture and Forestry, Lanzhou University, Henan Agricultural University, and Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute,” noted Akhilbek Kazhygulovich.

✅ The parties discussed three important areas that will greatly impact the development of a partnership between the two countries.

First, the establishment of a joint Technopark to introduce Chinese technologies and practical achievements in agriculture and the production of environmentally friendly products for export.

Second, the creation of a branch of the Chinese Agricultural University (CAU) at KazNARU, a leading educational institution in China. The rector noted that this branch will enable scientists from both countries to conduct joint research on current issues in the agro-industrial complex, transfer new technologies, and train competitive specialists.

Third, the joint development of a large-scale (Mega grant) project on water conservation in Kazakhstan and digital management of water resources. The university's president, Akhylbek Kurishbayev, emphasized the importance of developing modern approaches and digitalization for more efficient water resource management, as well as addressing urgent issues in long-term flood forecasting in Kazakhstan and surrounding regions.

✅ Other important topics discussed during the meeting included joint training of qualified personnel in veterinary medicine, the launch of joint Kazakh-Chinese international veterinary projects, the establishment of a "Veterinary Scientific Laboratory," and a "Kazakh-Chinese Intellectual Agricultural Center" at the university, as well as the development of cooperation between leading universities in both countries.

✅ Vice Premier Liu Guozhong of the State Council of the People's Republic of China acknowledged the positive progress in cooperation between China and Kazakhstan. He expressed his intention to expedite the search for effective mechanisms to deepen scientific and educational ties between the two countries.

✅ Kaisar Tabynov, director of the International Center for Vaccinology, addressed the guests and presented the unique PollenVax vaccine for immunotherapy of allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma caused by wormwood pollen. This vaccine aroused great interest of Mr. Vice Premier, since wormwood pollen is the causative allergen in more than 50% of the population of northern China suffering from allergic rhinitis. It was noted that funding for clinical research of the vaccine is expected from the state of Kazakhstan. Dr. Tabynov proposed to produce his vaccines at biopharmaceutical enterprises in China or open a production plant in Kazakhstan.

✅ The members of the Chinese delegation visited KazNARU's scientific and innovative infrastructure and also toured the Institute for Work with Wageningen University. They highly appreciated the university's innovative scientific achievements.

✅ The meeting was conducted in a constructive atmosphere, and the guests expressed their interest in developing partnerships and cooperation with the university.
