KazNARU SCIENTISTS CONDUCT SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ON THE CONSERVATION OF ALMATY FORESTS
In order to conduct research on scientific basis in four areas of green spaces, a Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation was signed between the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University and the municipality of Almaty.
Almaty has always been famous for its unique green spaces, purity of water, mountain freshness and apple orchards. Today it is a cultural, tourist, business center of our country and is constantly being transformed. However, in recent years, Almaty has been rapidly losing not only its green attire, but also the quality of its habitat. Trees, shrubs, lawns and flowerbeds are destroyed for the purpose of widening roads, organizing entertainment centers, infill development etc.
According to scientific research, today issues of environmental well-being of the urban population are coming to the fore. In conditions of intense environmental pollution, the role of green spaces has increased significantly. They perform not only an aesthetic, but also a sanitary and hygienic function (air purification, absorption of gas and dust particles, microclimate softening, noise reduction, etc.).
“Taking into account all these factors, we agreed to contribute to the joint management of Almaty forests, expanding cooperation in such areas as recording and assessing the current state of trees, creating a forest nursery, developing a “Management Plan for the Medeu Natural Park” and increasing the aesthetic appeal of landscapes “The Grove named after Baum,” noted the Chairman of the Board-Rector of KazNARU, Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akhylbek Kurishbayev.
This idea was supported by akim of the city of Almaty Yerbolat Dossayev. The five-year Management Plan for the Medeu Natural Park will systematize the environmental, scientific, tourist, recreational and environmental educational activities of the natural park.
The developed program of KazNARU scientists to reconstruct the “Grove named after Baum” and to improve the management efficiency of the Medeu natural park is a large-scale project. This event will attract qualified scientists and specialists and the general public.
