PARTNERSHIP RELATIONS BETWEEN KazNARU and WAGENINGEN UNIVERSITY (KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS) HAVE REACHED A NEW LEVEL
On November 1, 2023, the Chairman of the Board - Rector of KazNARU, Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akhylbek Kurishbayev met with a delegation led by the Jan-Kees Goet, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands.
Opening the event, the head of KazNARU Akhilbek Kurishbayev, in his speech, focused on the three most important areas of cooperation between KazNARU and Dutch partners.
First, cooperation work with Wageningen University, which began in 2019. Two educational programs “Veterinary Food Safety and Technology” and “Plant Science and Technology” were launched. The program period, in accordance with the requirements of the Memorandum, ended in October 2022.
The parties have agreed to renew this Memorandum of Understanding between the universities through a mutually beneficial working relationship.
Second, work with the Dutch company DFSK on the organization of the Kazakh-Dutch intensive garden, which KazNARU has been conducting since 2020. This pilot project has become the flagship of a program to study and popularize the most advanced and practical Dutch experience in the field of horticulture in Kazakhstan using new varieties of fruit and berry crops and technologies for their cultivation.
Third, at the beginning of 2023, KazNARU signed a Memorandum of Intent with the Wageningen Metropolitan food cluster to disseminate advanced Dutch experience in the integrated development of the agro-industrial complex through the Extention program among Kazakh farmers, as well as training domestic trainers in the use of innovative Dutch agricultural technologies.
The Vice Minister proposed to nominate Akhylbek Kurishbayev to the Kazakh-Dutch working group for an expert approach and discussion of issues in the fields of agriculture and agribusiness development at a high level.
Speakers at the meeting were: Business Development Manager of the Center for Innovation Development at Wageningen University Marion van Dorp, Attaché for Agriculture, Embassy of the Netherlands in Central Asia Arie Veldhausen, Senior Policy Specialist of the Department of Strategy, Education and Innovation of the Ministry of Agricultural and Industrial Enterprises of the Netherlands Karen Backhausen, Special Envoy of the Office European, international and agro-economic policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture of the Netherlands Frederik Vossenaar, Chairman of the DFSK Consortium Shark Walraven and others.
