KAZNARU’s COOPERATION WITH QUACQUARELLI SYMONDS WAS DISCUSSED
On November 09, 2022 Professor Akylbek Kurishbaev, Acting Chairman of the Board-Rector of Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, met with Nunzio Quacquarelli, Founding President of QS Quacquarelli Symonds, and Sergey Khristolyubov, QS Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The meeting was also attended by a leading consultant on higher education in the CIS countries in QS Dara Bukhtoyarova.
During the meeting Nunzio Quacquarelli spoke about the results of the international company QS and methods of evaluation of universities. In particular, he shared the information on the QS evaluation and analysis of the results of the survey and the subject ranking on the training areas.
According to him, the company Quacquarelli Symonds has been a compiler of university rankings since 2004 and has become the world's most popular source of comparative data on the effectiveness of universities, which is considered one of the three most authoritative international rankings. Every year the company ranks the world's best universities based on six criteria: authority in the field of research; the ratio of faculty to students; the reputation of the university among employers; the citation index of scientific publications; the share of international students and the share of international faculty.
Nunzio Quacquarelli gave a number of recommendations, which will allow the university to improve its performance in the world ranking by attracting new foreign partner universities, solving current issues of science and technology, etc.
In turn, Regional Director of QS Sergey Khristolyubov noted that KazNAEU has a good reputation in all areas, including educational programs and research. Last year in the QS-2022 ranking of the world's best universities - KazNARU ranked 551st, this year it rose to 481st place. This year, KazNARU took 5th place in QS Asia University Rankings 2023: Central Asia. Furthermore in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023, took 162nd place.
The parties discussed in detail the issues of cooperation of the university with QS company: organization of joint events and a number of other key areas of development and improvement of competitiveness of the university for promotion in international rankings.
The head of KazNARU, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, professor Akylbek Kurishbaev thanked the guests for the visit and noted that the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University will continue to improve to reach new heights in the QS rankings.
"The main mission of the university is to educate, and every teacher should understand that he or she is forming a new generation of competitive specialists. We will continue to strengthen the build-up of indicators of academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, exchange programs, reputation among employers, which will allow to solve current issues of science and technology, etc. Today the field of education is full of innovation and we intend to move away from the old format of training and will improve the model of teaching. This step demonstrates the growing attractiveness of the university for applicants, including foreign students, "- said Akylbek Kurishbayev.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on further fruitful cooperation for the development of key indicators of the leading agrarian university of Kazakhstan in the world ranking of QS universities. Nunzio Quacquarelli presented certificates of achievements to KazNARU in the regional ranking of universities QS Asia University Rankings - 2023.
