On topical issues of saiga population management in Kazakhstan

Talgat Kerteshev, Dean of the Faculty of Water, Land and Forest Resources of KazNARU, made an introductory speech to the participants of the Round Table.
On the structure of the RSE PA «Okhotzooprom» and the measures taken to improve management, on the fight against poaching, on Protected Areas under the management of the RSE PA «Okhotzooprom» on improving the quality of the inspectors, , about Combating corruption, about promoting respect for the animal world, about the material and technical equipment of the enterprise, about measures aimed at the introduction of modern technologies (UAVs), about the introduction of digitalization in the registration of administrative offenses, about introductions, reintroduction and breeding of animals, told the Deputy Head of the Service protection of the animal world of the RSE PA «Okhotzooprom» Mukhit Akoev.
Those present were interested in the latest methods of combating poaching, with the latest data on the state of the number of saigas. Konstantin Plakhov - Head of the Laboratory of Biocenology and Game management of the Republic of Kazakhstan Institute of Zoology reported on the methods of management and rational use of the resources of the saiga population in Kazakhstan. He analyzed the causes of sharp fluctuations in the number and showed the current role of the state in protecting and restoring the number of saigas by improving the regulatory legal framework, creating specialized specially protected natural areas, organizing specialized inspections to combat poaching and smuggling of saiga horns.
Anna Khamchukova, a university master student, researcher at the Laboratory of Biocenology and Game management of the Institute of Zoology, highlighted the problems of preventing the mass death of saigas, indicated the need to create a system of environmental and veterinary monitoring in Kazakhstan with the participation of not only veterinary specialists, but also zoologists, ecologists, hunters, parasitologists, and specialists organizations working in the field of protection, reproduction and use of wildlife.
Talgat Kerteshev, Dean of the Faculty of Water, Land and Forest Resources of KazNARU, informed about the Decision of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which was held in December 2022 in Canada. In his speech, the speaker noted the need to develop and adopt a Concept for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in accordance with the Kunming-Montreal Biological Diversity Framework adopted by the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
As a result of the work of the Round Table, a corresponding resolution was adopted.
