Current state of registration and protection of the saiga population
The Saiga (Saiga tatarica tatarica L., 1766) is a living symbol of the Eurasian steppes, the oldest antelope, modern mammoth and woolly rhinoceros, which survived the Ice Age about 20 thousand years ago. This is a background species of ungulates, migrating over considerable distances, numbering millions of individuals.
The anthropogenic impact on saigas is increasing every year. This is mass poaching in order to harvest antelopes for the sake of horns, which are in constant demand in oriental medicine, as well as meat and skins.
Mukhit Akoev spoke about the structure of the enterprise and the measures taken to improve management, gave information on the establishment and progress of criminal cases. Also, in order to ensure the protection agreement, the wildlife protection service operates, touched on the topic of combating poaching, gave information about the Protected Areas managed by the RSE PA «Okhotzooprom», informed about interactions within the framework of the agreements.
The lecturer also spoke about improving the quality of the inspectors, about Combating corruption, about promoting respect for the animal world, about the material and technical equipment of the enterprise, about measures aimed at the introduction of modern technologies (UAVs), about the introduction of digitalization in the registration of administrative offenses, about introductions, reintroduction and breeding of animals.
