KazNARU HOSTED A WORKSHOP DEDICATED TO WORLD WATER DAY 2026 WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE UN AND FAO INTERNATIONAL AGENDA

The Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU) will host an online workshop dedicated to World Water Day, which is observed annually on March 22. World Water Day was established by the United Nations in 1992 at the Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro and was first observed in 1993.
The event will be held within the framework of the international environmental and educational agenda aimed at raising awareness about the importance of water resources, rational water use, and sustainable management of water ecosystems. In 2026, the official theme of World Water Day is “Water and Gender,” highlighting the connection between water security, equal access to resources, and sustainable development.
FAO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, plays an important role in promoting sustainable natural resource management, food security, and environmental sustainability. The organization brings together 194 members and operates in more than 130 countries worldwide. On FAO’s official platform, World Water Day 2026 is also recognized as part of the global program of events dedicated to water, forests, and a sustainable future.
The purpose of the workshop at KazNARU is to draw the attention of students, faculty members, young researchers, and the wider public to pressing water-related challenges, including freshwater scarcity, pollution of water bodies, the impact of climate change on water systems, and the need for careful stewardship of water resources. Special emphasis will be placed on environmental responsibility, the promotion of a culture of sustainable water use, and support for international efforts to protect the environment.
During the event, participants will discuss the importance of water for human life, agriculture, ecosystems, and the economy. Today, the issues of access to safe water and the degradation of water ecosystems remain among the most urgent global challenges. World Water Day serves as an important platform for bringing together science, education, international organizations, and society as a whole.
Holding this workshop at KazNARU will be the university’s contribution to promoting the principles of sustainable development, environmental education, and a responsible attitude toward natural resources among young people.
Water is the source of life. By preserving water today, we preserve a sustainable future for generations to come.
