A MEETING WITH VETERANS OF THE AFGHAN WAR WAS HELD AT THE MILITARY DEPARTMENT OF KazNARU
A round table discussion titled “The Withdrawal of the Limited Contingent of Soviet Troops from Afghanistan: History, Lessons, and Remembrance” was held at the Military Department of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU).
The event was attended by the leadership of the Military Department, officer-instructors, veterans of the Afghan War, and students.
During the meeting, veterans who fulfilled their military duty in Afghanistan shared their service experience:
Colonel Zhalilov Talgat Mashurovich — Deputy Company Commander in Badakhshan, Baharat Province;
Colonel Abilkassymov Yegemberdi Dairabekovich — Sniper in Panjshir Province;
Sergeant Uzakbayev Ruslan Zhurayevich — KAMAZ driver in Kabul.

The discussion included a historical overview and an in-depth reflection on the significance and lessons of the war years. The veterans shared personal memories and answered students’ questions. Such meetings strengthen intergenerational continuity and help young people better understand military duty, patriotism, and the value of peace.
The event concluded with a minute of silence in memory of fallen soldiers, a commemorative photo session, and the presentation of small gifts to the veterans.
