KazNARU ORGANIZED A DIALOGUE PLATFORM “FROM THE UI GREENMETRIC RANKING TO ACTION: GREEN CAMPUS, TAZA KAZAKHSTAN, AND GAMIFICATION OF PLASTIC COLLECTION”

✅On February 3, 2026, an online teleconference titled “From the UI Greenmetric Ranking to Action: Green Campus, Taza Kazakhstan, and Gamification of Plastic Collection” was organized, serving as an important platform for discussing practical steps in the field of sustainable development of Kazakhstan’s universities. The event was attended by staff and students of the Institute for Green and Sustainable Development and the Faculty of Forestry and Land Resources of KazNARU, including lecturer of the Department of Landscape Design and Greening Sagynbek Daniyar Amangelduly, a student from the Department of Aquaculture, and Zholdas Erzhan from the Department of Forest Resources.

✅The teleconference was structured around four thematic areas, each presented through substantive reports and discussions.

✅The first topic focused on the UI Greenmetric ranking, which today has become an important benchmark for universities striving for sustainable development. Participants analyzed its criteria and emphasized that improving positions in both national and international contexts requires systematic joint work, knowledge exchange, environmental education, and coordination, covering such areas as energy efficiency, waste management, impact of education, and the development of green infrastructure.

✅The second theme addressed the concept of the green campus. Experts presented practical cases of implementing sustainable practices in the university environment, demonstrating how a campus can become a model of environmental education and environmentally responsible space. A roadmap was discussed, including campus greening, the development of electric transport, rational use of resources, and student involvement in ecological initiatives.

✅The third focus was on gamification of plastic collection. Participants shared experiences of using game mechanics to motivate students and popularize environmental campaigns. It was noted that gamification helps transform the routine process of waste collection into an engaging and large-scale movement, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among young people fostering impact of education.

✅The final block was devoted to the national program “Taza Kazakhstan.” KazNARU Vice-Rector for International Relations Rafis Abazov emphasized the active role of universities, the Institute for Green and Sustainable Development, and the Faculty of Forestry and Land Resources in organizing volunteer movements. Special attention was given to student participation in projects on plastic collection and recycling, as well as initiatives aimed at mobilizing society to address environmental challenges.

✅The teleconference became a significant event for all participants seeking to translate the ideas of sustainable development into real projects and environmental sustainability. It demonstrated that the joint efforts of universities, students, and public organizations open new prospects for Kazakhstan’s ecological transformation and contribute to fostering a culture of responsible environmental behavior.

✅The meeting was prepared through the joint efforts of the International Office, the Institute for Green and Sustainable Development, and the Faculty of Forestry and Land Resources of KazNARU within the framework of the university’s international cooperation development program. Collaboration in the field of knowledge exchange and environmental education opens new opportunities for KazNARU faculty and students, providing access to international resources, grant programs, and academic exchange platforms, while also strengthening the university’s position as a national research center.
