REGIONAL SEMINAR OF THE WORLD ORGANISATION FOR ANIMAL HEALTH SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED AT KAZNAIU
The Regional Workshop on “Harmonization of Veterinary Education: Alignment with WOAH Day-1 Competencies and Integration of the ‘One Health’ Concept into Veterinary Curricula” successfully concluded at the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU). The event was jointly organized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE).
The workshop brought together representatives of international organizations, experts, professors, and leaders of veterinary universities from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Belarus.
Over the course of several days, participants discussed the implementation of WOAH Day-1 Competencies for veterinary graduates, exchanged experiences and best practices in modernizing veterinary curricula, and explored approaches for integrating the “One Health” philosophy into the educational process.
Special attention was devoted to fostering regional cooperation, academic mobility, and practice-oriented learning.
In the closing session, First Vice Chairman of the Board – Vice-Rector of KazNAIU, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor Primkul Ibragimov delivered a welcoming speech, highlighting the importance of the seminar’s outcomes and the relevance of implementing the proposed recommendations. He expressed gratitude to the experts and participants for their constructive cooperation and emphasized the need for continued collaboration.
Mr. Dmitry Morozov, Regional Project Officer for Veterinary Workforce Development in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, presented a summary of the workshop’s outcomes, outlining key discussion points, expert contributions, and agreed follow-up actions. His presentation emphasized the practical relevance of the event and the importance of coordinated implementation of its conclusions.
Other distinguished speakers included Dr. Baba Soumare, Deputy Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH); Mr. Mereke Taitubaev, Representative of the WOAH Subregional Representation for Central Asia; Mr. Pierre Leke, Representative of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE); Professor Kazimieras Lukauskas, WOAH Expert; and Dr. Khudoynazar Yunusov, Rector of the Samarkand State University of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry and Biotechnology.
KazNARU students, master’s and doctoral candidates actively participated in discussions, showing great interest in modern approaches and innovations in veterinary education. Their involvement demonstrated the continuity of generations and the aspiration for professional excellence.
At the conclusion of the program, participants visited the modern laboratories and research centers of KazNARU, where they were introduced to the university’s advanced scientific developments in the fields of veterinary medicine, biotechnology, and food safety.
KazNARU continues to strengthen its position as a leading regional hub for scientific collaboration, experience exchange, and the training of a new generation of professionals in veterinary medicine, food safety, and sustainable development.
