ㅤㅤThe Department of Agricultural machinery and machine building was established on the basis of the Departments of Agricultural Machinery and Technology and Mechanics and Design of Agricultural Machinery of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
ㅤㅤThe Department of Mechanics and Design of Agricultural Machinery was one of the graduating and profiling departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The department received its name after the reorganization of the departments: «Machine repair», «Metal Technology», «Theoretical and Applied Mechanics» and «Machine-building and repair production».
ㅤㅤThe Department of Repair Business was organized at the Agricultural Institute at the end of 1930. An important role in the formation and development of the department was played by associate professor A.O. Proskuryakov, who, after graduating from the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, in 1940, by decision of the USSR Government, was sent to Alma-Ata, where he headed the specified department, by that time it was called «Machine Repair».
ㅤㅤDuring the years of the Great Patriotic War, the staff of the department, providing the educational process, actively joined in the implementation of work to assist the front. Workshops for the repair of tractors and cars, the restoration of worn parts, and the production of hand grenade casings were organized by the staff and students.
ㅤㅤSince 1950, the department has been running a postgraduate course on the basis of which a scientific school has been formed for the study of violations, the development of control methods and methods for restoring the design geometry of machines and aggregates. 8 teachers of the Institute defended their PhD theses in the scientific field. Simultaneously with the educational process, the department of «Machine Repair», since 1940, has been actively engaged in production activities through experimental training and production workshops (OPM).
ㅤㅤOver the years, the department of «Machine Repair» was headed by associate professors Sterlev V.S., Livshits V.M., Osmanov E.R., Kubaev V.M., Bisekenov A.B.
ㅤㅤThe Department of Metal Technology was established in the Kazakh Agricultural Institute in 1937. The first head was S.A. Kerdod, subsequently the head of the department was senior lecturer G.V. Kuznetsov, Associate Professor G.N. Nysanbayev, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor G.A. Degraf.
ㅤㅤThe collective of the Department of «Machine Repair» together with the Department of «Metal Technology» were the basis for the creation in 1968 of the faculty of «Organization of machine repair technology». In 1981, the departments «Technology of Mechanical Engineering» and «Materials Science» were organized from the department, which provided the educational process until 1987, after which they were re-united into the department «Technology of Structural Materials and Materials Science» (TSMMS).
ㅤㅤAdvanced machine–building and repair enterprises – Turgensky, Ushtobinsky, Saryagachsky repair plants, Altai, Volgograd, Pavlodar tractor plants, Barnaul Motor Plant, Odessa Agricultural Machinery Plant, Moscow Automobile Plant – were permanent places of practice for KazAI students.
ㅤㅤIn order to optimize the structure of the university, the departments of «Machine Repair» and «Technology of Structural Materials» were merged into the Department of «Mechanical Engineering and Repair Production» in 1999, and since August 2011, after the reorganization, the department is called «Mechanics and Design of agricultural Machinery».
