Practice (practice bases, main partners and dual training)

Educational practice in animal anatomy is an important part of the educational program of students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The practice is aimed at in-depth study of the body structure of animals, mastering the techniques of anatomical autopsy, as well as acquiring the skills necessary for further professional activity.
The educational practice is conducted on the basis of the Department of Animal Biology named after Academician N.U.Bazanova in classrooms 10 of buildings 02, 03, 04, 05 and the Anatomical Museum. Additionally, first-year students of the educational program 6B09104 - Veterinary Medicine attend the Almaty head Republican Zoo and the Almaty Hippodrome as part of the internship program.

Alumni Association

Voluntary union of alumni, established on the basis of shared professional and ethical principles, aimed at fostering unity among graduates

The goals of the Association

• Development of contacts between alumni members of the Association;
• Providing assistance to graduate students on employment issues;
• Promoting the preservation and development of the best traditions of the department.

The department has a modern material and technical base, has 9 classrooms, 2 training (physiological and biochemical) laboratories, anatomical museum. Lectures are delivered in lecture rooms equipped with interactive whiteboards, multimedia projectors. Laboratory and practical classes are held in specialised classrooms equipped with modern equipment and devices - haematological analyser, computer spirometer, FEC, refractometer, pH-meter, microscopes, electronic scales, etc. The disciplines taught at the department are fully provided with educational literature both in Kazakh and Russian languages.

Research and development of the department

Publishing activity

The chair demonstrates high results in the field of publication activity. During the reporting period, articles were published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, which confirms the importance of research conducted by the staff of the department. These publications cover a wide range of topics related to physiology, morphology and biochemistry and contribute to the expansion of scientific knowledge in these areas. During the academic year 2022-2024, 21 foreign research articles were published in Scopus indexed journals.

Scientific research

The teaching staff of the department is actively involved in research and development (R&D). The works carried out in various directions are aimed at solving urgent problems in the field of biotechnology, animal husbandry and bioresources. This includes both fundamental research and applied research, which allows to integrate scientific achievements into the educational process.

Protected Documents

The chair has also been successful in obtaining protection documents for the results of scientific research. These documents confirm the originality and significance of the developments, which is an important aspect for further commercialisation and implementation of the results in practice.

From 2022 to 2024, faculty members of the department received 6 patents for breeding achievement in the field of horse breeding:

2. Beskaragai factory type of Kazakh horse breed
3. Factory line Baytori 25-83 of Kazakh horse breed
4. Irtysh factory type of the Mugalzhar breed
5. Zamana breeding line 55-88 of the Mugalzhar breed of horses

Hirsch Index

Employees of the department have Hirsch index registered in Web of Science and Scopus databases. This indicates a high level of citation of their works and recognition of their contribution to the scientific community.

Scientific projects

Teachers of the Department of Physiology, Morphology and Biochemistry are actively involved in the implementation of research projects aimed at the development of agro-industrial complex and the introduction of innovative technologies in agriculture. Participation of the teaching staff of the department in scientific projects demonstrates a high level of involvement in solving urgent problems of the agro-industrial complex and contributes to strengthening the position of the university in the international arena. The staff of the department conducts active research work, fulfilling the state order under Fundamental Research Programmes, studying species, breed and age physiological and morphological features of animals. During the years of functioning at the department 12 doctors and more than 70 candidates of sciences have been prepared. At present 4 employees of the department carry out research work.

Professors of the department are authors of textbooks, in the state and Russian languages, on which students of veterinary, agricultural specialities of all higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan are trained. The textbooks published by Professors T.N.Nesipbaev and K.Janabekov are used by students of veterinary, zootechnical, biological specialities of all agricultural universities of Kazakhstan.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH of students

Student scientific circles on modern problems of biology function fruitfully at the department.

The Department actively develops scientific initiatives aimed at involving veterinary students in research activities. The main focus is on fostering students' interest in science, developing their analytical skills and deepening their knowledge in key disciplines.

Subject Olympiads and Quizzes

Every academic year the department organises subject Olympiads and quizzes among the students of 1-2 years of veterinary faculty. These events are organised in the following disciplines:

• Histology with the basics of embryology
• Anatomy of animals and birds
• Animal Physiology
• Animal Biochemistry

Aims and objectives of the events

• Increase motivation for learning: Students have an opportunity to learn the material in a fun and playful way.
• Knowledge enhancement: Tasks include questions that require both theoretical background and practical application of knowledge.
• Develop critical thinking skills: Participants solve problems that go beyond the standard curriculum.
• Building team spirit: Quizzes and Olympiads promote team building.

Specifics

1. Quizzes:
   • Format: team competition, including quizzes, practical cases and speed questions.
   • Topics: basic and advanced knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy, as well as the basics of embryology.
2. Olympiads:
   • Stages: individual theoretical round and a practical part (e.g. working with microdrugs or animal models).
   • Encouragement: winners and prize-winners receive diplomas and recommendations for participation in interuniversity competitions.

Scientific initiatives of students

The department actively involves students in research activities:

• Participation in research on topical problems of veterinary medicine, including biochemical and physiological aspects.
• Preparation of theses and reports for student conferences.
• Carrying out experimental research under the guidance of teachers.

Conducting subject olympiads, quizzes and scientific research allows students to:
